Aalok Patel, MDFellowship Trained Total Joints Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr. Patel is fellowship trained in Total Joints and is dedicated to transforming lives one joint at a time. He joins Romano Orthopaedic Center to assist in providing comprehensive care to the community. With a patient focused approach, he believes in engaging in open discussions with patients to understand their unique goals. This enables him to develop customized treatment plans tailored to their specific needs. By using innovative techniques and both nonoperative and operative, he helps patients regain mobility and go back to their favorite activities.

Dr. Patel began his studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago, earning degrees in biochemistry and psychology. He went on to earn his doctorate at Washington University School of Medicine. After medical school, Dr. Patel went to Baylor College of Medicine for orthopaedic surgery residency. During his orthopedic adult joint reconstruction fellowship at Oregon Health and Sciences University, he specialized in hip and knee arthroplasties with the utilization of state of the art robotic and navigational systems.

Scholastically, Dr. Patel has received numerous awards and honors, delivered several lectures and presentations, as well as published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters pertaining to a variety of subjects such as total joints, orthopaedics, skeletal alignment, cancer, and more.

Worked in the laboratory of Dr. Madhu Gupta. Research focused on the role of specific mircroRNAs in the development of cardiomyocytes and cardiomyopathy. Acquired new skills in real-time RT-PCR, vector transfection and cell culture. Presented posters at various departmental forums. Coauthored a paper on the research.

Summer 2008
American Cancer Society Summer Research Internship, Chicago, IL Was one of 25 high school juniors selected to participate in a summer research program sponsored by the Illinois division of the American Cancer Society. Performed research with Dr. Maryellen Giger at the University of Chicago. Focused on a computer aided diagnosis system for early detection of breast cancer from ultrasound images as well as performed statistical analyses to compare accuracies.
